Not Your Boyfriend’s Jeans

I feel like it’s been months since I’ve perused Nordstrom’s website. It’s just too much temptation, especially when I’m trying to reduce my spending with A’s bachelorette imminent (bank account, please excuse my Lilly for Target purchases – those were fashion incidentals). Three months ago, maybe even less, Nordstrom started carrying Madewell, a J. Crew affiliated denim company that I love. It’s kind of a funny contrast between Madewell and J. Crew – J. Crew is classic prep while Madewell is more about the boho basics. But Madewell’s jeans are undeniably awesome; they’re the first pair of denim that I’ve spent more than a $100 on and haven’t been disappointed in. As my room-mate would tell you, the best and only way to shop Madewell is when they are having a sale on their sale items. I’ve always been paranoid about things that I like, fearful that they’ll sell out, but my room-mate has me convinced that Madewell re-releases sizes when they put an item on sale. Don’t quote me on that, but I have seen it happen.

I’ve often  said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed, and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity – all I hope for in my clothes. – YSL

At least for me, patience really did pay off, because I was fortunate enough to snag these selvedge straight jeans in a sexy dark wash at nearly 70% off (originally priced $228). Breaking them in took a little longer than I thought it would, and because of their stiffness, sitting for long periods of time was fairly uncomfortable. No worries, this story does have a happy ending, and those jeans are probably my new favorite pair due to their butt enhancing effect and beautiful dark color.

Right now, time is slowly ticking by as I wait for these skinny boyfriend jeans to go on sale. I’ve bucked against the boyfriend jean trend for a some time now, and typical me, just when it’s about to go out of style I decide to embrace it. I haven’t tried them on yet, but I’m expecting that these jeans won’t overemphasize my hips, still look great in the rear (like all Madewell jeans), and their cuff-ability will be great for summer. Keep your fingers crossed that they go on sale soon!
